Researching Public High Schools:
- The Challenge Index – The Washington Post’s Challenge Index, created by Jay Mathews, contains rankings of the area’s high schools.
- DC Public Schools Website – This website gives detailed information about the enrollment requirements and performance of each DC public school. Click on the “Learn About Schools” tab to search the profile of a specific high school.
- Great Schools – This website provides information on test scores, class sizes, graduation rates, and more for DC’s public, public charter, private, and parochial schools. It also includes parent reviews of select schools.
Researching Private Day and Boarding Schools:
- Boarding School Review – This website categorizes boarding schools and ranks them based on selectivity, diversity, financial aid available, etc.
- National Association of Independent Schools – This website gives detailed instructions on applying for financial aid, evaluating a school, and choosing a school.
- Archdiocese of Washington Schools – This websiteprovides information about each high school in the Archdiocese of Washington, application information, and financial aid information.
Researching Financial Aid:
- School and Student Services by the National Association of Independent Schools- This website provides access to the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) online. This form is used to apply for financial aid at any independent school.
- Black Student Fund- This organization provides financial assistance and support services to African American students in DC attending a Black Student Fund member school.
- Fitzgerald Program – This program offers tuition assistance to 9th-12th grade Catholic or non-Catholic students applying to Catholic high schools.
- Capital Partners for Education – This organization provides mentorship, scholarships, and college access programming for students attending a select list of local private schools.
