KIPP DC: KEY Academy serves students in the grades 5 – 8. Each year, the open enrollment process begins for the following school year during the month of January, and closes during the month of April. All applications that are received during the open enrollment period are included in our lottery system where students are randomly selected for available spots based on their application lottery number. KEY Academy continues to accept applications, which are placed on our waiting lists, throughout the entire school year. Students must meet the following age criterion for enrollment.

Orientation Meeting
After students have been admitted, school officials will contact families to schedule an appointment to complete the KIPP Orientation Team (KOT) meeting. The purpose of the orientation is to meet with families to explain school expectations, outline school policies, and ensure all paperwork is in order. Students are not officially enrolled until the orientation is complete and all paper work listed below is received.
Enrollment Checklist
After being offered a spot at KEY Academy, families have 48 hours to provide the following documents. Families not providing documents within 48 hours will lose their space at KEY and their space will be offered to the next student on the waitlist
- A completed enrollment application
- Proof of DC residency
- A copy of the first page of the student’s IEP (if the student qualifies for Special Education services) or a copy of their 504 plan if the student is eligible
- A copy of the student’s most recent report card from their current schoolü A copy of their 2008 DC – CAS scores
