In July 2012, our 10th school, KIPP DC Lead Academy, opened at the Shaw campus. This elementary school will serve first grade students during the 2012-2013 school year and will grow grade-by-grade each year until it serves approximately 400 students in grades 1 – 4.

Ms. Mekia Love is the founding principal of KIPP DC Lead Academy. She has worked within KIPP DC for seven years, most recently as a vice principal at KIPP DC KEY Academy. Ms. Love has ten years of teaching experience in public schools and was awarded the U.S. Department of Education’s American Star of Teaching award in 2007 and The KIPP Excellence in Teaching award in 2008.
