Power Up Program kicks off year two at Shaw Campus

For the second year, students at KIPP DC Lead and KIPP DC WILL Academy are benefiting from a new program aimed at encouraging exercise and healthy lifestyle, goal setting, nutritional health, teamwork, and classroom achievement.

The Power Up Program occurs on a monthly basis in partnership with Athletes For Hope and former professional basketball player Awvee Storey who brings in active and retired Washington Wizards and Mystics players to serve as mentors to students. As part of the program, students commit to at least 60 minutes of physical activity outside of the school day and log their progress with their Polar Activity Watches. During sessions, students and mentors come together and celebrate their progress. Huge thanks to Athletes for Hope, Monumental Sports, and all of the players who are volunteering their time to mentor our KIPPsters!
