Important Update on Remainder of the 2019-20 School Year

Families,

I am grateful for all of your support as we’ve transitioned to remote learning over the past month. You and your children have been truly amazing.

Today, Mayor Bowser shared an update about the impact of COVID-19 on the operations of schools in the District of Columbia. Below are KIPP DC’s plans guided by this public health guidance. We miss all of you terribly and are committed to supporting your child through this.

Remainder of the 2019-20 School Year

We will continue remote learning through Friday, June 12. In the coming weeks your child’s teacher and school leader will communicate what this will look like. We are committed to supporting our students’ learning as much as possible while our school buildings are closed.

We’re committed to closing the digital divide for our students. In early May, every PreK-4th grade student will receive a tablet to further enhance remote learning and connectivity to their teachers. Stay tuned for further updates on this in the coming weeks.

The second round of  remote learning packets should arrive at the address you provided your child’s teacher by the end of this week. In addition, they’ll be posted on our remote learning hub by the end of the day today. These packets contain materials through at least May 15.

Middle school students should receive their Chromebooks via FedEx by Monday, April 20. We appreciate your patience as we work with the post office and vendors to get all of these materials safely to families. If you did not receive materials please reply to this email and we’ll work with you to determine next steps and/or create an alternate plan.

2020-21 School Calendar

We have already begun planning how we will come back stronger for our students, families, and communities. We’re currently reviewing our planned 2020-21 student calendar with an early August start date and will stay in close touch throughout the spring as we learn more about the impacts of COVID-19 on welcoming your child back to school.

Family Resources

We are committed to supported our families as we navigate this challenging situation together. Here are few links to helpful resources and information to support your family during this time:

Again, we are so thankful to all of our families. We know this has not been easy and this uncertainty can be challenging. We are here to support you and your child. We’ll continue to be in touch with regular updates. As a reminder, remote learning begins again on Monday, April 20.

We will get through this together!

All my best,
