KIPP DC, in partnership with Ward 7 resident and advocate Ms. Veeda Rasheed, are excited to announce the 3rd annual “Stop the Violence, Increase the Peace” rally scheduled for Saturday, September 15 at our Benning Campus. Students, families, community partners, and city officials will come together to bring attention to one of our highest priorities, the safety and vibrancy of our community. Join us in September as we give voice to students on this important issue.
This November we will host our first student-led Stop the Violence Design Day. If you are interested in partnering with us on this effort, please contact Althea Holford.
Ferebee Hope Back-to-School Event
On August 18, the engagement team joined the DC Department of Parks & Recreation and the Ward 8 community at the Ferebee Hope back-to-school event! It was an exciting day of meeting community members and organizations, while also providing students & families with backpacks, t-shirts, and other essentials to head back to school.
July 30th was the start of classes offered through our partnership with Byte Back, and we’re thrilled with the strides students have made. With Byte Back, participants have the opportunity to learn Microsoft Office skills and gain a certification through this class. Visit Byte Back’s website for more information.
Our First Day of School
Welcome Back! This month, we welcomed back students on August 3 for the first day of the 2018-19 school year. Our campuses were filled with big smiles, hugs, and a few tears of joy as and students and families returned for a new exciting school year. Each year, we’re especially proud to welcome our PreK3 students and families to their first day of school ever! We are excited to begin an excellent educational journey to and through college with our youngest learners. Check out photos.
KIPP Codes Hosts Demo Day
This month KIPP Codes participants had the opportunity to showcase their coding projects at Demo Day. Several local community leaders joined us at the KIPP DC Resource Center to listen as students shared projects created to solve everyday problems. Participants created a diverse range of apps from one that improves school security to others that bring sports fans together. Most importantly, they gained valuable skills towards success in the growing tech industry. Thank you to all of the elected officials and community partners that attended and made the event a success.
Penn Branch Civic Association Community Block Party
Members of the community engagement team were out and about at the Penn Branch Community Block Party on August 11. There was fun, food, and plenty of smiles to go around as the team met and interacted with many students, families, and community members!
NAF Academy Provides Job Readiness at KIPP DC College Preparatory
The partnership between the National Academy of Finance (NAF) and KIPP DC College Preparatory launched in August and we are proud to offer this unique opportunity to KIPPsters.
