Seniors Speak: Advice From the Class of 2021

From looking back on their academic journey to this point, to looking forward to embarking on new journeys and career, hear from the class of 2021 in their words as we celebrate their accomplishments in our ongoing Seniors Speak Series.

What has been your greatest accomplishment at KIPP DC?

Making the honor roll has been my greatest accomplishment.

Who is your favorite teacher or coach and why?

Mr.Stokes because he is and awesome teacher to his kids. He also brings snacks when we are really hungry.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to either attend community college or beauty academy. Attend community college or Hair academy in New Carrollton Md

What is a pro-tip you want to leave with the rising senior class of 2022?

To take your time, always read through your assignments, and communicate with your teachers.

What advice would you give to the teachers and staff at KIPP DC to help future students?

Bring positive vibes to to school each day to create a joyful and welcoming community.

What have you loved most about your KIPP DC high school experience?

I love the professionalism and how much the teachers and staff care for their students.

What has been your greatest accomplishment at KIPP DC?

Just continuing to pushing through all of the challenges.

What are your plans after graduation?

I look forward to studying nursing and minoring in psychology.

What advice would you give adults at KIPP DC?

Make sure teaching is your passion. And use the voice that you have.

What is a pro-tip you want to leave with the rising senior class of 2022?

Schoot is not that hard and keep pushing because it’ll all be worth it at the end.

What have you loved most about your KIPP DC high school experience?

The community and the school in general.

What has been your greatest accomplishment at KIPP DC?

Passing every grade.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to attend college to study business and finance.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I hope to be successful and financially stable

What advice would you give to the teachers and staff at KIPP DC to help future students?

My advice to teachers is to push students to be their best selves and remind them they have what it takes to succeed.

Who is your favorite teacher or coach and why?

My favorite teacher is Mr. Knight. We’ve been together for all four years of my high school experience. I’m closer to him than any other teacher. I love math and he’s a great math teacher.

What has been your greatest accomplishment at KIPP DC?

Achieving all A’s.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to attend college and major in Accounting.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself with my own car, and my own home, and with a job that allows me to live the life that I want to. Also, I see myself being debt free by the time I move out of my parents’ home.

What advice would you give to the teachers and staff at KIPP DC to help future students?

My advice to teachers is to have a healthy balance between school work and homework so students can pursue athletics, clubs, or work after school.

Who is your favorite teacher or coach and why?

My favorite teacher’s have been Ms.Guest & Mr.Celestin.

What has been your greatest accomplishment at KIPP DC?

Staying on the honor roll all throughout high school.

What are your plans after graduation?

I want to attend a great college like Norfolk State University or North Carolina Central University.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself helping patients as a nutritionist and being financially stable. 

What advice would you give to KIPPsters of all ages?

Stay on top of your work at all times and always feel empowered to ask questions.

Who is your favorite teacher or coach and why?

I so many: Ms.Li, Ms.Garnaat, Mr.Knight, Mr.Corbin, Mr.Walker, Ms.White, and Coach Brown. These are all teachers or coaches that I have either known for a long or ones that I know I can trust and have established a good connection with. 

What has been your greatest accomplishment at KIPP DC?

Two things come to mind: Making the varsity football team and helping establish a robotics club along with my two godbrothers. 

What are your plans after graduation?

I want to get into a career that I will enjoy, something that is hands on and that will allow me to put my college degree to use.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I will be into my career, possibly as a car mechanic or something similar to that. I could also see myself being apart of a FIRST robotics team like my menots Ms. Garnaat or Ms. Li. I want to be married with possibly one or two kids and have a home that I can share with my god brothers.

What advice would you give to the teachers and staff at KIPP DC to help future students?

Try to get to know your students personally. Find out what your students are passionate about and try and push them in the right direction. It’ll make a life-long impression on them.

Who is your favorite teacher or coach and why?

My favorite teacher is Mr.Bratton! He is very caring and intelligent. He makes me feel comfortable about the material and he gives us conversations that we could really use in the real world.

What has been your greatest accomplishment at KIPP DC?

Being helpful to others.

What are your plans after graduation?

I am still undecided.

What words of encouragement or wisdom would you give to KIPPsters of all ages?

JUST DO IT!  It’s nothing like having no missing assignments . It’s like having no bills.

What advice would you give to the teachers and staff at KIPP DC to help future students?

Be patient with your students. Slow down and always try to be empathetic to what they are going through.

Mr. Magliato because he is very understanding and always a lot of help.

I’m proud to have made it to my senior year.

I plan to attend college next year.

Don’t give up and never give in.

What advice would you give to the teachers and staff at KIPP DC to help future students?

My advice to teachers is to always seek to understand the student perspective and the challenges they may be facing daily.
