Spring Break “Virtual” Camp Schedule

Spring Break may look a bit different this year for KIPPsters across the District, but follow along on our Instagram account for week-long “virtual” camp of engaging, educational, and fun activities for students of all ages. Phase 2 of remote learning begins Monday, April 20.

Monday, April 13

9:00 am: Soccer Skills with DC SCORES

Get your day started by moving! Learn basic soccer skills with our friends at DC SCORES!

10:00 am: Virtual Field Trip: Art!

Enjoy virtual field trips to DC’s National Portrait Gallery and the Virginia Museum of Fine Art for the Kehinde Wiley exhibit, “A New Republic”!

11:00 am: “Dreaming Big” with Pretty Brown Girl

This session will focus on “Dreaming Big”. Girls will channel their energy, focus and work while practicing and learning about meditation and its benefits.

1:00 pm: Arts & Crafts Corner!

Arts & Crafts can be easy! With minimal supplies, you can get creative with make your own paint, shaving cream marbling or tessellations. Leave with tons of DIY projects for your stay at home.

3:00 pm: Juggling 101

Use three household non-breakable items to learn to juggle!

4:00 pm: Story Time: Kia and the Magical Spikes

Enjoy a read aloud of Kia and the Magical Spikes. This is the story of Ms. Ware’s personal journey to living her childhood dream of running on the world stage, representing the USA in the Olympics and winning a medal.

Tuesday, April 14

9:00 am: Fitness on Deck

Join us as we pull a card from a deck to determine which activity we will do next. Who knows what card will be pulled?

10:00 am: Virtual Field Trip: Animals!

Have you ever been to the New York Farm Sanctuary, home to over 800 rescued farm animals? Here’s your chance! Walk alongside Ms. Catalano and Ms. Day as you learn about the amazing animals who call the sanctuary home.

11:00 am: Meditation & Yoga

1:00 pm: Invention Convention

In this hands-on session, you’ll create usable products out of recycled materials like cardboard, milk cartons, plastic, etc. Bring whatever recyclables you have around the house and let’s get creative!

3:00 pm: The Singing Corner

Sing along to some of your favorite songs and learn new ones with Ms. Zimmerman at The Singing Corner.

4:00 pm: Story Time: Elephant & Piggie: Waiting is Not Easy

Wednesday, April 15

9:00 am: Move It Workout with DC SCORES

DC SCORES will lead a full-body workout for students. Get your blood flowing for the day!

10:00 am: Ask the Expert: COVID-19 Conversation with Dr. Malika Fair

Curious to hear what healthcare professionals are saying about COVID-19? Tune into this one-on-one interview between a KIPP DC Northeast student and DC-based emergency medicine physician, Dr. Malika Fair.

11:00 am: “Always Believe in Myself” with Pretty Brown Girl

This session will focus on “Always Believe In Myself”. Girls will focus on learning what affirmations are and how to apply them to their everyday lives.

1:00 pm: Take YOUR Stage Poetry Workshop – Elementary School Students
2:00 pm: Take YOUR Stage Poetry Workshop – Middle School Students

DC SCORES will lead writing and performance workshops that will provide students with tips and tricks to enhance their writing and to bring their spoken word performance to life. 

3:00 pm: Baking Camp

Join in on an easy, from-scratch baking session that is kid-friendly, requires few ingredients and low-tech.

4:00 pm Story Time: Don’t Count Me Out!

Enjoy an inspiring story session highlighting black excellence and other ethnic books. The session will end with an empowering positive affirmations and motivations activity!

Thursday, April 16

9:00 am: Burpee Alive Workout

Get the blood flowing with this workout with Northeast Academy’s Ms. Maxwell.

10:00 am: How to be an Actor: Interview with Laura Spencer

Are you planning to become an actor? What will it take to pursue this career? Join Mr. Rottman as he interviews Laura Spencer, a cast member from the hit shows Bones and the Big Bang Theory about her career.

11:00 am: Yoga, Mindfulness & Movement

1:00 pm: Thought Catcher Thursday

Take a break from TV and take some time to journal your thoughts. This session will include pre-selected writing prompts and some general guidelines for how to get started.

3:00 pm: Songs from my Heart

Take a trip with us to an acoustic concert where you will learn some songs in Spanish.

4:00 pm Story Time: Bear Came Along

Friday, April 17

9:00 am Kickin’ It With Mr. Rollins

This martial arts workout from Northeast Academy’s Mr. Rollins will get you moving and ready for your day!

10:00 am: Virtual Field Trip: Zoo!

Lion, Tigers, & Bears oh My! Come on this virtual field trip to the San Diego Zoo with Somerset College Prep’s Ms. Day!

11:00 am: Haircare at Home!

Celebrity Hairstylist, Charcelle Wilson, will share hair care tips with students during this challenging time!

1:00 pm: Abstract Art Made from the Heart

Enjoy an abstract art project that focuses on Zentangle patterns. The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns called tangles. These tangles are created with a combination of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves and orbs.

3:00 pm: Cooking Class

Jump into the kitchen with Mr. Roe and learn basic recipes like grilled cheese, chicken fettuccine alfredo, cheese omelet, tuna melt, chicken salad sandwich and more!

4:00 pm: Story Time: Student Spotlight
