What makes teaching at KIPP DC unique?

TO AND THROUGH COLLEGE

KIPP DC students, parents, and staff members sign the ‘Commitment to Excellence’, promising to do whatever it takes to climb the mountain to and through college. By working together, 93% of KIPP DC alumni have graduated high school. From day one, KIPP DC students know the year they will graduate from a 4-year college and display that year on their KIPP DC t-shirts.

INNOVATION

KIPP DC encourages innovation and creativity in its schools, classrooms, and curriculum. To achieve this, KIPP DC teachers collaborate and share techniques with colleagues at their own schools and across the network through resources like KIPP Share, our national online content-sharing platform.

MORE TIME

Teachers utilize longer school days to provide students with rich learning experiences, character instruction, and field lessons. KIPP DC students spend 40% more time in the classroom than their peers through an extended school day, Saturday School, and mandatory summer school. High-quality experiential field lessons to national parks, historically significant regions, and college campuses provide engaging opportunities for students.

TEACHER CELEBRATION

KIPP DC values teachers and empowers them to lead, collaborate, and constantly develop in their craft. Learning and sharing techniques with colleagues across the entire KIPP network through the year and during the yearly KIPP School Summit, allows KIPP DC teachers to engage themselves and their students in order to climb the mountain to and through college together.

TEAM AND FAMILY

At KIPP DC, our teachers are “on the same page”. They hold high expectations for students, both academically and behaviorally. By making no excuses and taking no shortcuts, KIPP DC schools are successful because the adults in the building work together to build a strong and united school culture.
