The Annual GEMS Summit
Every spring semester, our community engagement team hosts a GEMS summit for KIPP DC women-identifying students in 7th – 12th grade. The Girls Embracing their Magic and Strength (GEMS) summit is an opportunity for our students to come together in a safe space and learn from women who have walked in their shoes.
On March 4, we kicked off Women’s History Month by inviting young ladies and their families to join our annual GEMS summit at KIPP DC Legacy College Prep. It was one of our biggest turnouts, with nearly 100 students, families, staff, and close partners attending. Students and families participated in sessions that tackled topics in health and wellness, stress management, personal branding, self-motivation, and being a young woman of color in modern society.
We want to give a big shout-out to JayCee, an influencer and keynote speaker, who played an instrumental part in inspiring our young leaders. Thank you to community leaders and entrepreneurs for leading each student and family session. We also want to express our gratitude to our students, families, and staff for their participation!
