Family Spotlight – Ms. Lovlonda Pinkston

Meet Ms. Lovlonda Pinkston | KIPP DC Shaw Campus

KIPP DC is proud to celebrate the contributions of our families in the community. This month, we’re highlighting Ms. Lovlonda Pinkston! Ms. Pinkston is a proud DC native and a parent of two daughters at our Shaw Campus and has been a member of the KIPP DC family for 10 years.

While working full-time for the District government as a parking enforcement officer, Ms. Pinkston maintains an open line of communication when it comes to her children’s education. “It’s been a pleasure to be a member of the KIPP DC community. My daughter has exceeded all expectations since starting at KIPP DC. I’m a big advocate for prevention, so I’m the parent that wants that phone call. I want to ensure my children are doing what they are supposed to do so they can keep excelling.”

Ms. Pinkston enjoys being able to help her school community by volunteering on field trips and building strong relationships with the staff.I never miss a field trip. I always ensure I have that the leave so I can go. Teachers don’t always see everything and sometimes they need assistance too! I know it can be overwhelming for staff because they care for all of our children during the day, so I want to let them know I’m here if they ever need anything.”

In addition to working full-time and volunteering in our community, she is also a student at Trinity Washington University, where she will receive her degree in criminal justice this spring. “My two girls are watching and I want to be an example for them and show them that it’s never too late to go after your goals.”

When she’s not volunteering on campus or taking classes, you can find her shopping with her girls or traveling to find trendy good eats! We are thrilled to have her as a community member and March’s Family Spotlight!
