Teachers

The backbone of KIPP DC’s success is a team of exceptionally talented and diverse teachers and leaders. United by the belief that an excellent education transforms lives, this team has helped KIPP DC become the highest performing school system in the District of Columbia.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (Required)
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be “Highly Qualified”, which includes a bachelor’s degree and passing the appropriate Praxis exam(s) (Required)
  • Commitment to working with students from educationally underserved communities (Required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in content area (Preferred)
  • Experience/strength in content area (Preferred)
  • At least two years of teaching experience in a public school (Preferred)
  • Experience teaching in a predominantly African American environment (Preferred)

APPLICATION PROCESS

Capital Teaching Residents

Capital Teaching Residents commit to teaching for a minimum of three years in Washington, D.C. Residents spend the first year of this commitment—their residency year—training in a classroom with a highly effective mentor teacher. Residents are placed at one of KIPP DC’s 16 high-performing public schools in Washington D.C.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution by June 2019
  • Undergraduate minimum GPA of 3.0 (preferred for early childhood & elementary placement; required for secondary placement)
  • Residents are expected to pass their Praxis II exam, as well as the CORE exam before they begin their residency year. We do not ask Residents to take the Praxis exam until they have been admitted to the program, and we reserve the right to decline the admission of any accepted applicant that does not pass the required Praxis exams.
