KIPP DC Closes 3/16 – 3/31 + Remote Learning Plans

KIPP DC Families,

This morning, Mayor Bowser announced the closure of schools in the District of Columbia to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. KIPP DC schools will be following this guidance. All schools will be closed from next Monday, March 16 until Tuesday, March 31.  During this closure, we will stay in close communication with all KIPP DC staff, families, and students about our plans to reopen schools.

*Today, Friday, March 13 will be a normal school day with a 4 pm dismissal – aftercare is still in session.*

Remote Learning
By tomorrow afternoon you will receive email guidance to a detailed remote learning plan designed for your student(s)’ grade.

Please plan to pick up your child’s remote learning kit at their KIPP DC school during one of the following times:

  • Monday, March 16 from 12:00 pm to 4:30 pm (meals will be distributed to take home)
  • Tuesday, March 17 from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (meals will be distributed to take home)

PreK3-8 students will be provided learning packets, books, etc. and high school students will be provided with a Chromebook, learning packets, books, etc.  We ask you to visit your child’s school on Monday or Tuesday  to pick up learning materials and/or a chrome book (high school) to ensure learning continues while school is closed. We’ve been working over the past few weeks to prepare for this situation and the plan you will receive by email on Saturday will share how their teacher will support learning while schools are closed.

Meals
KIPP DC is committed to supporting all families with regular lunch service at specific campus locations during the school closure, while following DC Health Guidelines to prevent the spread of the COVID-19. For Monday and Tuesday you should plan to visit your child’s school to pick up meals. A full plan for meal service will be shared by noon on Sunday, March 15 with families.

Questions
We know there are many questions you may have about this closure. Feel free to email us and we’ll get back to you in the next day with answers or a timeline for when we can answer your questions.

We appreciate your partnership as we work together to educate your children.

Best,

Dane Anderson
