KIPP DC Schools Closed Tuesday, June 2

KIPP DC Team & Family,

I am frustrated. I am angry. And I demand that things change in this country for Black children. Black children deserve better. Black families deserve better. Black educators deserve better. Black human beings deserve better.

Our students are the next generation of leaders. But they need today’s leaders—their parents or guardians, their teachers, their community leaders—to come together to talk about and tackle the structural and institutional inequality, prejudice and outright hostility many Black Americans face every single day.

Without action, our words are meaningless. KIPP DC schools will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, June 2 in solidarity with our Black students, staff, and families. The KIPP DC community is encouraged to use the day to take care of themselves and their loved ones, check in on their family and friends, and make their voices heard as part of the movement for racial justice.

Please stay safe and take care of yourselves and each other.
