Recapping Our Annual Young Men’s Empowerment Summit

Every spring semester, our community engagement team hosts a Young Men’s Empowerment Summit for KIPP DC male-identifying students in 7th–12th grade. The Young Men’s Empowerment Summit (YMES) serves as a platform for our students to gather in a nurturing and inclusive environment, fostering growth and learning through shared experiences and mentorship.

On Saturday, May 20, we had the honor of hosting our annual Young Men’s Empowerment Summit at KIPP DC Legacy College Prep. It was a remarkable event that brought together nearly 75 students, families, staff, and valued partners. Participants actively engaged in a wide range of sessions, designed to address crucial areas such as health and wellness, stress management, personal branding, self-motivation, and navigating the experiences of being young men of color in modern society.

The event concluded with an exhilarating 3-on-3 basketball game tournament. This spirited competition not only showcased the participants’ teamwork but also provided an opportunity for everyone to have a great time. Laughter and cheers filled the air as teams collaborated, displaying their skills and forging lasting bonds.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and made this year’s Young Men’s Empowerment Summit a resounding success. Thank you to the community leaders and entrepreneurs who lead for each student and family session. We look forward to continuing this tradition of inspiration and growth in the years to come.
