Two KCP Students Selected as Posse Scholars

KIPP DC College Prep (KCP) is proud to share that two seniors have been selected as Posse scholars and will receive full rides to college! The Posse Foundation identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential, provides four-year, full-tuition scholarships, and places those students in supportive, multicultural teams — “posses” — of 10 students at partner colleges across the country.

With the support of Posse, Darrell Foster will be attending University of Wisconsin and Brionna Hicks will be attending Bucknell University. Both students have made the most of their time at KCP and boast impressive resumes.

Darrell is the president of the National Honor Society, a football captain, a lacrosse captain, a participant in the Washington Post Press Pass Mentor Program, and a volunteer with animals. His teachers remark upon his intellectual curiosity, self-initiative, and the sense of personal responsibility that drives him to succeed. Darrell also embodies the classic KIPP mindset. As he shares, “I want to continue to grow and improve. I don’t want to look back and say that was the best year. The best year is always right now.”

Brionna is a member of the National Honor Society, a viola player, a track and field athlete, and a Future Focus intern who worked at the Inter-American Development Bank over the summer. Her teachers admire the way that she stands up for what she believes and fully commits to everything that she does. As one KCP staff member explains, “Brionna Hicks is a force of nature — a quiet force and not one to be underestimated.”

We can’t wait to see what Brionna and Darrell accomplish in the years to come! Congratulations!
