KIPP DC: AIM Academy
Est. 2005
Grades: 5-8
Number of Students: 329

In July 2005, KIPP DC: AIM Academy opened in a Sunday school space in Ward 8. AIM’s goal was to continue the success of KIPP DC’s first school, KEY Academy, and provide more families the opportunity to attend a KIPP DC school. After growing one grade level at a time for three years, AIM outgrew its original space and relocated to the former Douglass Junior High School building in the summer of 2008. AIM is proud to serve families East of the River and strives to live up to the legacy of Frederick Douglass, who once called this neighborhood home.

KIPP DC: AIM Academy has been recognized as a Silver Gains school by the EPIC FOCUS program, which recognizes those schools who have had the most value added to student achievement nationally. In addition, KIPP DC: AIM Academy won the Fight for Children Champion of Quality Award in 2010. AIM provides a rigorous academic program as well as a wide variety of enrichment activities, ranging from basketball to string orchestra to horseback riding.
