KIPP DC is a community of high-performing, public schools committed to excellence, equity, and justice. Equipped with a KIPP DC education, our alumni are empowered to be successful in college, careers, and life.

25 years ago in a church basement in SE DC, KIPP DC founder Susan Schaeffler and a team of dedicated educators founded our first school, KEY Academy. Since then, KIPP DC has scaled from 80 students in that one middle school to nearly 7,500 students—in preschool through 12th grade—across 22 schools.

In February of next year, Susan will transition to a special advisor role and our current President, Shannon Hodge, will assume the role of CEO to lead KIPP DC on its journey for the next 25 years of impact in DC!
