Freshmen Spotlights – Gionni, Nina, Joi & King

As we approach the end of the school year, it is a time of celebration and recognition for the newest high school class at KIPP DC. These exceptional freshmen students who have already made a significant impact and displayed remarkable dedication throughout their first year of high school. Let’s delve into their aspirations and hear their words of wisdom for incoming 8th graders!

Gionni is a freshman at Legacy College Prep who who has a p
assion for studio dance. His favorite class is studio dance because his teacher makes it enjoyable. He finds inspiration from Shakira, a senior, who has accomplished an impressive feat of getting accepted into 20 different colleges. Her determination and success motivates Gionni to pursue his goals and dreams. Gionni’s best advice for incoming 8th graders is to stay true to themselves and never change for anyone. He encourages them to have fun and enjoy their journey through high school.

Nina, another freshman at Legacy College Prep, stands out for her enthusiasm for honors world history. She finds her favorite class to be honors world history because it challenges her. Coach Romo serves as her inspiration, as he supports his students and pushes them to be their best. Nina’s best advice for 8th graders transitioning to high school is to remain authentic
and find like-minded individuals who share similar interests. She highlights the importance of surrounding herself with friends who are motivated, excel in academics, and share a passion for sports.

Joi, an ambitious freshman, expresses her love for biology as her favorite class at Legacy College Prep. She enjoys learning new information and finds her biology class to be particularly enriching. She draws inspiration from her Englis
h teacher who encourages and pushes students to perform better. Joi’s best advice to incoming freshmen is to recognize the significance of their freshman year. She emphasizes the importance of giving your all during this crucial year, as it sets the tone for the rest of their high school journey.

avorite class, music production, captivates him as his teacher provides detailed guidance on creating music. King finds inspiration from the entire staff at Legacy, as they hold him to a high standard and ensure that he is on the right path. His best advice to 8th graders is to remain focused and avoid distractions.
