KIPP DC Alumnus Nina Meyers is Writing Her Own History

Before Nina Meyers was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 List for Finance and growth equity investor for Goldman Sachs, she was a KIPPster walking the halls of KEY Academy.

“I remember we were in the ‘Blue Castle,'” recalls Nina as she thinks about her earliest memories of KIPP DC. “The teachers there really made sure I had the best academic experience I could have and the support from those people really helped change the trajectory of my life.”

The trajectory of her life since leaving KIPP DC has been remarkable. This includes graduating from Spelman University with honors in 2018 and joining Goldman Sachs as an equity research analyst. Currently, Nina is a growth equity advisor who spearheads the firm’s One Million Black Women initiative, a $10 billion investment commitment to narrow opportunity gaps for at least one million Black women by 2030.

“Coming from parents who are entrepreneurs, I know intimately how difficult those conversations have been for black founders in the past. I know how hard it is to start something from scratch and grow your company. Entrepreneurship put me through college. I told myself, ‘If I can bring humanity, respect, and compassion into that process, I feel like I would be doing my part.’

As we think about doing our part as KIPP DC continues its focus on improving math achievement and growth for all students, Nina views it as fundamental to our charge of amplifying the ability of the next generation of DC leaders.

“Math is at the foundation of everything. The energy of math communicates with everything, whether it’s science, music, or reading, and interweaves into every part of your life. And you don’t have to use it every day for it to be relevant and important. Just having that foundation in something analytical and technical is powerful.”

Nina describes being named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list as an honor. “To be acknowledged like this, and specifically for something I’m so passionate about—the people and the woman that I support—is really cool.”

Nina Meyers’ journey from KEY Academy to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list is a powerful testament to the transformative impact of education, unwavering determination, and a dedication to positive change. We take pride in celebrating her personal success and the profound impact she is making in championing opportunities for others.
