"At Heights Academy, we strive to instill a motivation to grow, learn, and improve in each of our students. We set our KIPPsters up for future academic success in rigorous, intentional, and loving learning environments, where they always feel valued."

Michael McGee, Principal, KIPP DC Heights Academy

"Parents are ready and willing to do what they need to help the child and the class. The trust between the community and the school makes my job easier."

Kaylan Lemon, 1st Grade Teacher, KIPP DC Heights Academy

"I love to volunteer and be in my kid’s shoes for a day to see what they’re experiencing. I just enjoy those things because your children won’t be young forever, and it’s fun to be able to experience life and school through their eyes."

Sherika Roberts, KIPP DC Parent, KIPP DC Heights Academy

Academics

Heights is a knowledge building school that strongly believes that knowledge is the seed to curiosity. We subscribe to the principles of explicit instruction in all subject areas. Our approach to education is rooted in educational research on teaching, learning, and cognitive science to ensure our students have an elementary experience that propels our children into becoming confident readers, writers, problem-solvers, thinkers, and leaders.

Students receive comprehensive and rigorous instruction in literacy and math, but also benefit from art, music, physical education, social studies, and STEM classes.

KIPPsters at Heights Academy develop a love for learning, and build the skills and mindsets necessary to set them up for success in middle school and beyond.

Extracurriculars

Heights Academy offers their elementary students a number of extracurricular ways to build teamwork and explore their passions, including art club, basketball, Pretty Brown Girl, field games, cooking club, and Masterminds Tutoring.

We partner with the YMCA for aftercare.
