KIPP in the Community – May 2018 Edition

We’re gearing up to close out another great school year!  This month, we celebrated our  KIPP DC Community Champions, welcomed moms & daughters for the first annual G.E.M.S. Summit, and launched our KIPP DC Coding Bootcamp! It’s really been quite the month. Read all of the happenings from May in this month’s KIPP in the Community.

KIPP DC’s First Annual G.E.M.S. Summit On May 9, in partnership with G.I.R.L. Inc and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc the Girls Embracing Their Magic & Strength Summit (G.E.M.S Summit) welcomed young girls and women from across Washington, D.C. for a day of empowerment and self-care! The day consisted of a series of sessions that highlighted all girls and women’s need to continue embracing their magic and strength! More.KIPP DC Community Award Winners

The 2017 -18 End of the Year Awards At this year’s End of the Year awards ceremony the community engagement team had the distinct pleasure of awarding KIPP DC Community Champion awards to teachers and staff from across our schools. In total 17 teachers were awarded for their tremendous work for leading efforts to foster a sense of community inside and outside the classroom! We look forward to working alongside these community champions in the upcoming academic year.

KIPP DC Launches Adult Coding Bootcamp – This month we’ve launched and received a number of applications for our KIPP DC Codes Bootcamp! Starting on June 26, KIPP DC will host a 10-week intensive coding boot camp for adult residents of DC’s Ward 7 and Ward 8 communities. The program will introduce adult participants to the basics of coding and help propel residents into the growing tech industry. More.

KIPP DC Parent Organizations

KIPP Parent Organizations Celebrate 2017-18 School Year – KIPP Parent Organizations are the heart of our schools. During the final KIPP Parent Organization meeting of the year at KIPP DC KEY Academy, parents, teachers, and staff gathered to show gratitude for their amazing work! From being volunteers, fundraisers, to the occasional breakfast sandwich maker, our KIPP Parent Organization parents go above and beyond to support all of our students! Our team truly looks forward to growing  KPO’s presence across all KIPP DC schools.

Alphas at KIPP DC College Prep

Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. visit KIPP DC College Preparatory – On a warm Friday afternoon, the members of The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc stopped into KIPP DC College Preparatory to hand out freeze pops and ensured safe passageways for our students heading into the weekend. We look forward to having you again.
