Conversations on Cultural Competence Empower Educators at Promise Academy

As cornerstones of communities, school systems play an influential role in catalyzing a more just and equitable society. To that point, our schools emphasize championing diversity, equity, and inclusion while establishing environments that promote a sense of belonging among students, families, and staff. This is the goal of the Cultural Competency Committee at Promise Academy, which aims to ensure that diverse, culturally progressive practices are not only valued but sustained within classrooms and schools at KIPP DC. KIPP DC Celebrates Black History Month

We’ve enjoyed seeing vibrancy and creativity alive in our schools all month as we celebrated Black History Month. While Black History Month celebrates the contributions Black and African-American people have made to help shape our country, equally important is the celebration of students’ culture, heritage, and unique life experiences.

Whether through showcases, concerts, or performances, be sure to catch up on how our schools celebrated Black History Month by visiting us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!

KIPP DC Hosts Third Annual Young Men's Empowerment Summit

On Saturday, February 8, KIPP DC brought together young men and families from across Washington DC for the third annual Young Men’s Empowerment Summit at KIPP DC College Preparatory. This year’s theme was “Knowledge is Power,” with the goal of empowering young men to lead choice-filled lives through access to information. Attendees enjoyed a day of fellowship amongst black men and were able to engage in workshops on financial literacy, healthy eating, entrepreneurship, sexual health, and more. Check out more images from the third annual Young Men’s Empowerment Summit!

Following the success of this year’s Young Men’s Empowerment Summit, KIPP DC will host the third annual Girls Embracing Their Magic & Strength (G.E.M.S.) Summit on Saturday, March 7 at KIPP DC College Preparatory. This year’s summit will address the pressures young women face by focusing on wellness, coping with stress, beauty and image as it relates to social media, and belonging. KIPP DC is committed to retaining talented educators and leaders across our network of schools. The internal transfer process allows teachers and mental health practitioners to apply and interview for open positions within the KIPP DC network for the 2020-21 school year. For more information on the process, timeline for interviews, and ideal candidate profiles, review this one-pager and talk with your principal about any plans to apply for internal transfer.
