Showing the Work

We recently hosted three impactful events that underscore our system-wide focus of improving math achievement and growth for all students. At KIPP DC Inspire Academy and KIPP DC Quest Academy, we hosted engaging Math Nights dedicated to elementary students and their families. These events were thoughtfully designed to provide an interactive platform where mathematical concepts came to life through various engaging activities, games, and challenges. Read more!

Classroom Spotlight
Ms. Mayo
8th Grade Math Classroom
KIPP DC Valor Academy
This month we stopped by Ms. Chanel Mayo‘s 8th grade classroom at Valor Academy for our Classroom Spotlight. When we popped in, students were demonstrating their mastery of dilations through scale drawings and mapping similar figures using rigid motions, dilations, or both.
“The most fulfilling aspect of working with this class of KIPPsters is their growth in mindset and social independence. It is fulfilling to be apart of their journey towards making positive and intentional changes for their future,” remarked Ms. Mayo.
“I LOVE, love participating and guiding my students through an academic (Math) “Productive-Struggle”, in which students are eager to demonstrate mastery as well as resilience when working through misconceptions. It warms my SOUL when my students collaborate and problem-solve with one another, in partners or small groups.”
A Night of Joy, Learning, and Community

On the evening of December 20th, KIPP DC College Prep came alive with the vibrant colors, flavors, and rhythms of the African Diaspora. The Celebrating African Diasporic Cultures Museum, a brainchild of KCP’s AP African American Studies class, unfolded as a celebration of diversity and a testament to the richness of Black cultures worldwide. Revisit KCP’s African Diasporic Cultures Museum!
