Seniors Celebrate College & Career Signing Day

As the class of 2019 filled KIPP DC College Preparatory’s gymnasium for our annual College & Career Signing Day, they were met with announcements of their future alma maters, jubilant cheers, and rapturous applause from the students, staff, and families members in attendance. A reception most deserving, for a class that submitted more than 1,400 applications, garnered more than 700 acceptances, and earned more than six million dollars in scholarships. Classroom Spotlight

University of Cincinnati

KIPP DC Valor Academy

KIPP in Touch visited the University of Cincinnati classroom, led by Ms. Andraya Mays, for this month’s classroom spotlight. During our visit, KIPPsters were in the research phase of their final project, which consists of comparing their favorite novel the year with another text that has a similar topic or theme using a medium of their choice (video, podcast, blog, PowerPoint, essay, monologue, poem, etc.)

Ms. Mays learned a tremendous amount from this group, including adopting a tramua-informed lens to creating a sense of belonging in her classroom. “You may never know what others are struggling with, but you want to be a person who makes whatever load they’re carrying a little lighter.”

Congratulations to the University of Cincinnati Classroom for being this month’s classroom spotlight! View more photos from the visit.

End of Year Awards Celebration

The hard work of our teachers and staff is appreciated everyday, but it’s always great to take a step back and honor a few special members of our team whose work has greatly enhanced the success of our students, families, and each other.  Check out photos from the evening!
