Each year, the KIPP Foundation presents the Harriett Ball Excellence in Teaching Awards at KIPP School Summit. These prestigious awards go to outstanding KIPP teachers from across the country who ignite a passion for learning in their students and work hard each day to improve their craft. Recipients receive a $10,000 award and the honor of being “the best of the best” across all 162 KIPP schools. This year, KIPP DC boasts TWO of the twelve Harriett Ball Excellence in Teaching award winners! Huge congratulations to Jay Guzman, a Kindergarten teacher at KIPP DC Grow Academy, and Lauren Delaloye, an AP U.S. History teacher at KIPP DC College Preparatory.
Here are a few words from their nominations:
“Jay is a KIPP alumnus who has committed his life to teaching KIPP students in order to give back for all that he’s been given. Jay is the embodiment of everything we hope for our KIPPsters: kind, hard-working, gritty, and smart, and he’s using those skills to make a positive impact on the world by teaching at KIPP.”
“If I was given the challenge of restructuring or opening a school and was told to pick one teacher from my ten-year teaching experience to support my efforts, it would, without a doubt, be Lauren Delaloye. Lauren embodies Harriett Ball’s aspiration with a perspicacious mind and an inspiring work ethic. No one wears the coat of effective teaching quite like Lauren.”
Kudos to Jay and Lauren for this tremendous accomplishment! We are so lucky to have you on our team!
