The KIPP DC Pride Summit invites all KIPP DC middle and high school students, families, and staff to gather, celebrate, and embrace their community.
Thursday May 23, 2024 | 5:00 pm-7:30 pm | KIPP DC College Preparatory
Part of KIPP DC’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion focuses on the intersectionality of our students, families and staff’s lived experiences, including their gender identity and expression and sexual orientation.
Research from The Trevor Project and GLSEN demonstrates that creating spaces of belonging improves the well-being and mental health for LGTBQ+ youth who are more likely to experiences feelings of depression, suicidal ideation, and bullying than their heterosexual and cisgender peers.
In recognition of this impact, KIPP DC has worked to increase the support for students in our Middle & High Schools through expanding Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) clubs. Currently, there are 4 active GSAs across the network and we are working to continue expanding to more programs next year.
Our goal is to continually create a more inclusive and affirming environment for our LGBTQ+ students and their families.
Workshops include:
- Best practices in allyship
- Advocacy
- Creating inclusive classroom cultures
Stay tuned for more program updates as they are released!
