This month, we intentionally emphasized our commitment to students, their voice, and empowerment. Through a series of safe passage events, the G.E.M.S. empowerment summit, and a student-led business expo – we gave students opportunities to share their voice and become leaders in their school communities. To hear students engage in safe passage discussions with such passion and self-determination was truly inspiring to see. We look forward to continuing this in April and beyond.

2nd Annual G.E.M.S. Summit
On March 2nd, we kicked off Women’s History Month with our annual G.E.M.S. Summit! We welcomed girls, mothers, and mentors for a day of empowerment and professional development. This year, the sessions intentionally emphasized economic empowerment and entrepreneurship for young girls of color. We were grateful to have so many great session leaders and women entrepreneurs join us to empower the next generation of business owners, entrepreneurs, and their families!
Safe Passage: Congress Heights
As educators and community members, we’re committed to ensuring each of our students’ commute to and from school is safe and free of harm. As part of our commitment we are hosting a series of Safe Passage discussions to bring attention and brainstorm sustainable solutions. That’s why on March 5th, KIPP DC and the Deputy Mayor for Education’s office brought together more than 75 families, students, staff, and community members to identify and solve challenges related to safe passage. Using a design thinking approach, participants identified community assets and resources along with potential barriers to student safe passage. Read more about the student-led recommendations. We look forward to continuing to engage communities on this important topic.
KIPP DC College Preparatory’s NAF Academy of Finance Hosts Business Expo
On March 9, dozens of business owners, entrepreneurs, and financial literacy professionals joined KIPP DC College Preparatory’s NAF Academy of Finance students at the 2019 Business Expo. This student-led expo allowed students to engage professionals on best business practices, professionalism, and what it means to be “successful”. Wealth Building Wednesdays
We’re gearing up for our April convening of the Wealth Building Wednesdays webinar series! As part of our commitment to empowering families with resources, we invite you to join us for a discussion with Dr. Trina Fletcher and Tina Fletcher on Wednesday, April 3. Participants will join in on a conversation around: “Family, Relationships, and My Finances: How do I Love Without Going Broke?”. KIPP DC College Preparatory Wins First DCAA Championship
We were thrilled to be at the Sports & Entertainment Center in Ward 8 to cheer on our KIPP DC College Preparatory boys basketball team as they competed in the DCAA Class-A Championship game! In a thrilling game, the KCP Panthers came out on top with a 55 -47 win over SEED Public Charter School. We are proud of our students, who work hard inside and outside of the classroom! We look forward to celebrating many more championships at KIPP DC College Preparatory in the future!
