KIPP in the Community – May 2020

Happy May!

It’s been a different month, but we were proud to celebrate both Teacher Appreciation Week and Parent Appreciation Week at KIPP DC. We celebrated all week long through virtual acknowledgments on our schools’ Instagram pages and even sent home gifts to each teacher!  I truly believe the bedrock of engagement is that connection and partnership between teachers and families. Families and teachers are connecting regularly and getting creative in reaching kids from viral TikTok challenges to Instagram and Facebook. This month we honor the work being done to maintain teaching a home while working either at home or outside of the home. It is a Herculean effort and we salute you on both sides of the screens.

We also want to send a huge shout out to our KIPPsters. Through it all, our students continue to excel. The global pandemic from the eyes of a child – the missing of friends, the structure of school, and perhaps a long-awaited prom or graduation should not be overstated. Nonetheless, our students continue to stay home and stay safe. They are connected, engaged, and learning in what could be the most confusing and challenging time of their lives.

Our students are even inspiring us by leading campaigns to participate in the 2020 Census.  The road ahead is still uncertain, but the past few weeks have shown the ways in which we rise above. To our students, families, and teachers:  we‘re here for you, we honor you.

Thank You!
