Spring Academy celebrates Democracy Week

During the week of January 16 – 20th KIPP DC Spring Academy hosted Democracy Week!

Spring Academy Democracy Week offered our KIPPsters the space and opportunity to discuss and learn about the three branches of the U.S. government, the 2017 Presidential Inauguration, and to reflect on Former President Barack Obama’s presidency.

Students read books such as Duck for President, Fly Guy at the White House, and When Penny Met POTUS to help further their understanding of the history of the White House and the U.S. Presidency.  In addition, students also created and displayed their “If I Were President…” written pieces and the canvas paintings. They even learned about the importance of the White House garden and healthy eating.

KIPPsters concluded the week with a celebratory Lift Every Voice Assembly. The performance was met with a packed crowd full of parents and supporters!  Thanks for making this week a success.
